Weird List of Things Lost on the Titanic

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 6:01 PM

US003401

By now we all know a little about the Titanic, but HowStuffWorks has a great list of things that were lost on the famous ship, many of which were news to me. Perhaps the most interesting one is some of the lost artworks on the ship:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering the wealth of many of its passengers, the Titanic was carrying a number of works of art, all of which were lost when the ship sank. The most spectacular of these was a jeweled copy of The Rubaiyat, a collection of about 1,000 poems by the 11th-century Persian mathematician and astronomer Omar Khayyam. The binding of this incredibly luxurious book contained 1,500 precious stones, each set in gold. It had been sold at auction in March 1912 to an American bidder for £405 or around $1,900 — 15 years worth of wages for a junior crew member on the Titanic.

GGTV's 10th Header Contest

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 3:01 PM
I wanted to hold off until 4 months for the next contest, but with the hiatus coming up I figured it'd be a good time to change to a "wintery" layout and trudge out the lonely holiday.

Does anyone have this table from Ikea?

How sturdy is it? Do you think it would be able to support a small television?

Details: Jessica + Curt, Part III

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 6:00 PM

Where do you start with a reception like this one?  Jessica + Curt celebrated their newlywed status at the Marvimon House and even Emily, our wedding guru, has to admit she hasn’t come across centerpieces like the ones designed and arranged by wedding planner extraordinaire, Jesi Haack.  Like Jessica and her attendants’ bouquets, the arrangements are textured, rustic and even slightly romantic.  I like them!  A lot.  Before you go, be sure to sneak a peek at the couple's dessert table, overflowing with goodies from the Sweet and Saucy Shop, as well as the photographer's original blog post about Jessica + Curt's happy L.A. day here!

Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? Our vows were one of my favorite parts of the wedding. We each came up with 10 statements that started with "I promise," and then exchanged them. They were a complete surprise, to each other and to our guests. Some were funny ( "I promise not to wear granny panties until I’m actually a granny. And even at that point I’ll try not to make a habit of it." and "I promise to vanquish all spiders, creepy-crawlies, and other critters that might upset the balance of our pest-free home.") and others were serious (" I promise to wake up every day and choose to be your wife, your lover, and your best friend" and "I promise to discover the world with you by my side and to love you everyday like it may be our last"). It was incredibly meaningful to combine our own words with the traditional vows that couples have exchanged for centuries. Needless to say, there were very few dry eyes in the group.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? As of now, we don't have any immediate, life-changing plans. But 10 years from now, we'd love to be living in a little bungalow in Laguna Beach with our two little kiddies. And our long-term career goal is to open our own event space so that other non-traditional couples like us can have a unique, contemporary, and affordable wedding venue.

Your kid is a special human being to you and therefore you should ensure that your kids bedroom designs are also that much special. We all adore our kids and love them very much and it is exactly for the same reason that to make them feel special we should always go for the best things; especially their bedroom because it is their own space. Designing a kids bedroom can be an ultimately fun and enjoyable process. The hardest part of the decision making is to choose what type of theme to opt for, with choices such as boating, castles, football, fairytale and history the choices are literally endless. But have you ever tought at a Jurassic Park themed bedroom ? The bottom jaw of the dinosaur is hinged to reveal a built in toy box, and the murals in the bedroom reflect the dinosaur theme.- Found on 3murphys

The moon is magic.

To me, anything that is associated with the moon is, by default, pretty darn magical.

This beautiful stone wall was made by Shanna's partner and is more glorious than words can describe.

This beautiful masterpiece of stone is perfect for moon gazing. And isn't that just a grand idea?

Maybe we all need to devote some time to properly staring at the moon.

I would love to do that.

Thank you for the kind words on the last post. If you missed it, there's a giveaway going on and you have until tonight at midnight PST to enter. The winner will be announced on Friday.

Happy Wednesday to you.

What a frill with Rufflebutts!

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 1:00 PM

rufflebutt pink and blue

I’m starting to really feel sorry for my baby daughter. As the weather’s been getting warmer I’ve started putting her in more and more pretty dresses – and I keep forgetting about the nappy covers. Most probably because I keep forgetting to buy some! So of course my poor darling daughter is hardly ladylike and generally wears her legs around her ears when she’s in the pram, showing the entire city her Huggies from under her pretty dress.

Good thing Ruffflebutts makes their gorgeous frilly nappy covers in a variety of bright colours. For $26.95, you – well, I – can purchase one of these, pop it over the nappy and the outfit is complete! Available in sizes three to twenty-four months, the nappy covers are 100 percent cotton and available from Little Bare Bear.

I bought this LEGO CD Boombox for little Ella yesterday. I hope she is going to be as excited about it as I am. Way cool for a kids room, no?
